A proposed amendment to the AMPBA rules which will allow the use of Lipo batteries in the EA class electric boats.  This is the class that the SuperV 27 and Blackjack 26 RTR commercial boats would run in so it is highly recommend this proposal is supported.

Just a quick update on what has been happening.

Main Lake Site

The working bee on Sunday 9 March went very well. The driver’s stand rail was sanded back and a couple of coats of varnish were applied. The vegetation along the front was cut back so we now have a clear view of the water, which is a lot safer. A big thanks to all those who contributed, time, materials and equipment to get the job done. The plan now is to keep on top of the vegetation on a fairly regular basis which will keep it manageable. Volunteers with whipper snippers and lawn mowers are welcomed.

Race Software

I have received a copy of the official AMPBA race software for the club. The software will assist in scheduling races by drawing heats, de-conflicting radio frequency clashes between competitors and controlling actual races. Once we get a wiring loom sorted out for the driver’s stand we can look at running our own club races using the software.

Club Website

With the change of our original name to fit in with incorporation requirements, I have registered a new domain name for our website. I have now transferred the site over to the new domain. While I still have a few things to fix up on the photos side of things, the site is fully functional. However, I had to wipe clean the user registrations from the old site so everyone will need to re-register. I have also included a discussion forum on the new site for use by members.

Regards

John Howell

Secretary

To all Members,

First I would like to welcome all members to our new club, The Tuggeranong Model Power Boat Association.

The Club has come a long way since our first meeting at the Queanbeyan Leagues Club.

We have quite a few members now and I can see it getting better as we go.

Thanks to John‘s donation we now have the web fencing for our pit area, Warren for the steps going into the water for our launch area.

I have also been busy getting our incorporation through and meeting with the head Ranger to organise better facilities at the Practice Lake and getting our permit for the main Lake all of this is coming together nicely.  I have given Glen the Insurance papers so we should be up at the Main Lake later this month.

Warren and I have also put into the ground the plastic pipes to hold the pickets for the fence this will make it quicker to assemble and take down.

We will be moving the rescue boat up more to the left making it easier to launch and will also be out of the road of the drivers stand where we will soon have a mound of dirt.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank members for there support with the new club and for abiding by all club rules.

Don’t forget if you would like to put forward any ideas please do so it is your club and all ideas are welcome let the committee know.

Also not to forget best of luck to John and the Boys with their Race meet down south later this month.

Happy Boating

Alan Ward
President

For those that couldn’t make it down to the lake on Saturday, we fenced off the pit area for the first time.  This worked really well in keeping spectators away from the running boats and made things a lot safer.  Thank you to everyone for starting your boats in the pit area which also made things a lot safer.

Warren has done some work on the launch area and has installed some concrete pavers to step down to the water.  This is a huge improvement as it used to turn into a real quagmire and was a real trip/slip hazard.  A big thanks to Warren for his work getting it done.

We had a hiccup in our incorporation application as the name we had chosen was too close a match to the old club.  Alan had a chat to the Registrar General’s office and we couldn’t make any reference to “ACT” or “Canberra” in our name.  We made a decision on behalf of all members and have re-submitted our incorporation application under the name “Tuggeranong Model Power Boat Association”.  I’ll be updating all references from MPBC-ACT to TMPBA in due course (including our website).

On the AMPBA side of things.  The race meet that was announced to be run in March in Sydney has now been cancelled due to most of the host club being away for Easter.

Our next run day is a “test and tune” day on Sunday 17 Feb from 9:00 am at the Practice Lake.

Regards,

John Howell
